Plot:
An unmanned Allegheny and West Virginia Railroad (AWVR) freight train ends up at full throttle departing the company's yard in small town Fuller, Pennsylvania, this situation a case of human error. Beyond reprimanding the employee at fault, Fuller Yard Manager Connie Hooper has to deal with the issue of getting control of or stopping the train by whatever means, she in the process reporting the issue to head office. The most obvious issue of it crashing into anything in its path including any other trains on the track or derailing in a less than ideal location is only exacerbated by the toxic and highly flammable cargo in some of the cars. She ends up butting heads with the VP of Operations, Oscar Galvin, in the best approach to take. In the ever evolving situation of items on the track and track conditions, the most immediate issues which don't seem to have good outcomes are another train on the track heading in the opposite direction that has no place to pull over, and the train making it to Stanton, population of just under 1 million, there no way the train being able to make it around the track curve in the center of the industrial area of the city at full speed. At the helm of that opposing train is engineer Frank Barnes, a recently widowed twenty-eight year AWVR veteran, and conductor Will Colson, who has only four months under his belt and who has other things on his mind in dealing with a domestic issue with his wife, which has exploded into a legal matter. Frank and Will, who are working together for the first time and often have differing opinions on how to do things, believe they have a less than perfect plan, but a plan nonetheless, to get the train under control at their own risk.
