U2: Window in the Skies

This music video splices together dozens of music stars -- from Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald to Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley and The Beatles, then Queen and Nirvana, and other widely recognized artists -- who look as if they all are performing U2's song "Window in the Skies" in concert. U2 appear for only a few seconds as regular audience in the crowd attending the concert. The crowd was filmed on November 20, 2006, at the iconic Corner Hotel in Melbourne, Australia, a venue for live music since the 1940s, with the four members of U2 been scattered among 300 lucky fans. Nearly 100 tiny clips taken from the previous 50 years were carefully integrated, and a range of techniques were used to finesse the lip-sync to match the lyrics. The final version of the video includes footage of the Beatles, which U2 were unable to get the permission to use in time for the first edit of the video to be done.
