Storyline
In 1919, Greek refugees from Odessa settle in a Greek village, where an orphan named Eleni falls into a forbidden romance with her adoptive brother. Her flight from a forced marriage sparks an odyssey across a landscape ravaged by war.
1919. In the wake of the Bolshevik Revolution and the Red Army invasion, the Greek communities of Odessa find themselves forced to flee to their homeland. But against the backdrop of extreme poverty and suffering, a miracle happens: a boy and a girl fall in love and summon up the courage to elope. And as they wander through the rugged Greek countryside, along with a group of travelling musicians, the turbulent history of Greece unfolds. Indeed, a curse seems to follow the young couple: before long, WWII breaks out, and then the Greek Civil War pits brothers against each other.
