Plot Storyline

Drama-documentary recounting the events of the 1st July 1916 and the Battle of the Somme on the Western Front during the First World War. Told through the letters and journals of soldiers who were there.

This film is based on letters and diaries of soldiers who witnessed the battle first hand and wrote down what they saw and felt. Focusing on these stories, the horror of the battle is made real by combining beautifully shot drama with moving archive footage.
