Storyline
Germany, shortly before elections - a mysterious disease outbreak afflicting only men strikes. Differences between the sexes long believed to have been overcome re-emerge, shaking society to its core. Based on the novel by Robert Merle.
Germany, on the eve of the election: As co-chairs of the FEM Women's Party, Anita Martinelli and Sarah Bedford are pursuing ambitious political goals. They are campaigning for nothing less than a systemic change that puts ecology, equality, and sustainability at the center. But in the midst of the election campaign, a novel virus breaks out that affects only men. The symptoms: sexual frenzy, assaults on women, and the sudden death of those infected while in a state of extreme arousal. Chaos soon breaks out in the capital. When the newly re-elected Chancellor Darius Becker also falls victim to the virus at a raunchy private election party, Anita Martinelli and Sarah Bedford take over the reins of government without further ado the next morning. Sarah calls this "creating facts." She becomes interim chancellor and appoints Anita as the new interior minister. Soon, the entire federal government is in female hands. Meanwhile, all men are being asked to quarantine themselves at home. Anita's husband, the renowned virologist Ralph Martinelli, is tasked with developing a vaccine against the virus with his research team. In complete isolation on an old military base deep in the forest, the "protected men" begin their work. But not all the women in the government truly want to save the men. Together with the male-hating Health Minister Martha Novak, Chancellor Sarah is now pursuing entirely different plans. Anita doesn't recognize her best friend anymore.
