The Greek Aisle

In Denver, Georgia Kimmel gave up a secure corporate job to open a small boutique marketing company with her friend Rose, they still needing a more secure client base to make a go of the venture. She has been so preoccupied by work that she didn't realize that she has to be in Corfu, Greece in less than a week to deal with the estate of her deceased Aunt Margaret, Greek by marriage. Georgia lived with Aunt Margaret when she did her post-secondary studies in art history in Corfu twenty years ago, her fond memories of the place including the food at her favorite restaurant run by Elena Marini, and her friendship with Elena's son, Alex Marini. Georgia is relying on the inheritance, Aunt Margaret's house, to be able to pay off an imminently due business loan. She finds that much of what she remembers of Corfu hasn't changed, including of Elena, the restaurant, and the congeniality of Alex, now a police officer. What she doesn't expect is that Aunt Margaret split her inheritance between her and Alex, who became not only a close friend but the person to who she turned for any help she required. This turn throws Georgia for a loop, not only in having half what she expected, but the legalities of of being co-owner as a non-resident. Alex, who wants to live in the house, can't afford to buy Georgia out of her half unless he gets the job he wants as a detective. Beyond Alex being able to buy her out, Georgia comes up with a plan to get around the legal problems of non-residency or not being a Greek citizen: to enter into a marriage of convenience with an initially reluctant Alex, it ultimately to be annulled after all the legal requirements for the estate are met. Further complications ensue from this fake marriage.
