Abandoned by her lover and penniless, the charming, aristocratic, and vulnerable Madame Lubov Andreyevna Ranevskaya returns to Russia with her sixteen-year-old daughter, Anya. But, on their way back to the ancestral estate, after so many years, the elegant lady sees the once-powerful family's fragrant cherry orchard in full bloom: a painful reminder of her dire economic state and the imminent foreclosure of the enviable property.
