Plot:
An adaptation of the 1929 namesake novel by Earl Derr Biggers. The famed Hollywood actress Shelah Fayne is taking part in a new film project which is shot on location in Honolulu, Hawaii. She summons her mystic adviser Tarneverro from Hollywood to help her decide whether she should marry her wealthy suitor Alan Jaynes, a man which she barely knows. Shelah's friend Julie O'Neil worries that the famous psychic has too much influence over the actress. The local police inspector Charlie Chan uses a pretext to meet Tarneverro, talking to him about a cold case, the unsolved murder of the film star Denny Mayo. The publicity director Jimmy Bradshaw discovers Shelah's murdered body. Chan handles the investigation and he invites Tarneverro to assist him. Tarneverro claims that Shelah was responsible for the death of Mayo, who was her former love interest. Chan has to find out what connects the two murders, and the motives behind them.
