The Married Couple of the Year Two

Bidding a hurried farewell to his beloved France after the untimely death of an aristocrat, the humble commoner, Nicolas Philibert, flees to South Carolina and makes a fortune as a crop merchant, in late-eighteenth-century America. Successful and rich, Nicolas yearns to settle down by marrying an affluent heiress; however, when someone accuses him of bigamy, the wedding is called off until the groom returns with an official divorce certificate.
