Sixteenth Year

Laj (Waheeda Rehman) has a secret lover Shyam (Jagdev). When she overhears her father fixing her marriage with a man she has never met, she takes a pearl necklace, a precious family heirloom, and elopes with her lover in the evening. However, he ditches her during the train journey and also makes off with the necklace. Now Laj is in a dilemma: she has to retrieve the necklace and return home before the next morning, before anyone in her house becomes aware of the theft and her running away. A newspaper reporter Pran (Dev Anand) in search of a juicy story helps her in her mission.
