Storyline
An emerging political scandal in Toronto in 2013 seen through the eyes of young staffers at city hall and a local newspaper.
Is a fictionalized version of the exposure of the scandal centered on real life Rob Ford. Toronto, 2013. Earnest Bram Shriver has been languishing as a junior reporter at the city desk of the The Record newspaper, a nonetheless well paying job he's had since graduating with a Journalism degree a year ago. While he wants to write hard hitting stories, he is currently assigned the compilation of top ten lists i.e. top ten bars in the city, etc. But in a series of work situations including intercepting a telephone call meant for the recently let go senior reporter and he being asked to do street interviews asking citizens about the job of the top man at city hall, he comes across what he believes could be that story to move his career to what he wants: purported video evidence that not only was Mayor Ford partying with crack heads, but that he was smoking crack himself. As he tries to track down the story, a question becomes will anyone trust him with the information especially seeing to his lack of experience and position. On the flip side, middle age Ford has surrounded himself with a group of political aides, all millennials like Bram, they who have seen Ford's less than ethical behavior behind closed doors, especially when he has been under the influence, and who have protected him up to this point in believing the city needing his "man of the people" style of governing regardless of if one believes in his actual politics or not. As such, one or some of those aides may feel Bram the right person to tell their story if they can no longer support the actions of their boss.
