The Candid Eye: Police

A profile of the Toronto Metropolitan Police is presented. Police officers are shown in training for preparation of their work in the end goal of maintaining law and order and to ensure public safety. While much of their day-to-day work is of a mundane variety, there is the high probability that something more criminal in nature will occur when one million people are brought together such as in a city like Toronto. The work of the force is not always of the criminal variety as Joe and Jane Public deal with non-criminal issues that require police assistance. Within the rank and file, there is some specialized work as varied as in the sciences and in the visual arts. While more people are on the streets during the day, it is the overnight shift that has its own unique policing issues as many criminal activities are purposefully done in the cloak of darkness or take place during nighttime activities such as in bars. And the police will sometimes uncover more insidious items in routine calls such as the discovery of a dead body in what was a noise complaint. In such an instance, it is not the police's job to lay blame, but to collect evidence for the Crown who will decide if it is a prosecutable case.
