Paradise Highway

To protect her brother Dennis (Frank Grillo), who is in prison, trucker Sally (Juliette Binoche) occasionally smuggles hot goods in her car. But her latest job is giving her a hard time. This time the goods are not drugs but, to her great horror, a young girl (Hala Finley). To avoid getting her brother into trouble shortly before his release from prison, she takes on the job. But the handover of 13-year-old Leila goes wrong. Leila grabs Sally's old shotgun, which is lying under the passenger seat of the truck, and shoots the courier (Jim Dougherty) who was supposed to pick her up. Now good advice is expensive. Reluctantly, the hardened Sally helps the girl and keeps her in her truck. While the courier's body brings not only the human traffickers (Christiane Seidel, Scottie Whitehurst) but also the police and FBI onto the scene, Sally and Leila slowly grow closer during their involuntary escape. And time is running out for the unusual traveling duo. Sally can count on the support of her trucker friends (Veronica Ferres, Desiree Wood, Dianne McNair-Smith) in the fight against Leila's pursuers. And the experienced detective Gerick (Morgan Freeman) and FBI rookie Sterling (Cameron Monaghan) soon realize in the course of their investigations that the alleged perpetrators are in fact the victims.
