Plot
Storyline
A young American hustler pursues the girl of his dreams to Oxford, where he must enroll to obtain her.
Nick Di Angelo, whose primary source of income is working as a parking attendant at the Dunes Hotel and Casino on the Vegas strip, has the imminent goal of attending Oxford University, he just short of the academic qualifications, but far short of the financial resources. With a little Vegas luck and some creative manipulation, he is able to cross the line on both as he is accepted and is able to attend. The reason for this goal: his infatuation with Lady Victoria Wingate, who he only knows of through what he reads in the British tabloids and popular magazines, who he believes is the most most beautiful woman in the world, and who will be attending Oxford herself. What he hopes will ingratiate him in her eyes is his own prowess in a staple Oxford activity, rowing, as he is a champion single sculler. Beyond Victoria, Nick receives a rough reception due to his brash American nature which is deemed by many as non-Oxford, his only real friends being his roommate Geordie Nevitts, fellow American student Rona Devlin despite their initial antagonistic encounter but who always seems to pop up in his life, and his college housemaster Simon Rutledge who also happens to be the college's rowing coach. And while Nick knew that Victoria recently turned down a marriage proposal, he discovers that she is dating fellow Oxford student and equally upper-crust Colin Gilchrist Fisher, known as the best rower at Oxford. Regardless, Nick does catch Victoria's eye arguably in being different than her regular suitors. In Nick's push and pull at his time at Oxford, including with his college's fellow rowers and with Victoria, he will learn a little more about himself in an effort to be accountable for his actions.
