Plot:
In the aftermath of October 17th, a group gathered around the Audin Committee (named after the young mathematician tortured to death by paratroopers in Algiers in 1957, who has since disappeared) understood the need to bear witness to these crimes committed by the police in the heart of Paris. One of the committee's organizers, the historian Pierre Vidal-Naquet, accepted Jacques Panijel's idea to make a film. This became "October in Paris." The film was financed by the Audin Committee, itself secretly aided by the FLN's Federation of France, which remained clandestine. Filming began at the end of October 1961. Production continued until February 1962 and incorporated into the final cut the Charonne metro tragedy, where eight French democrats were murdered by the police, still under the orders of Prefect Papon. The film was banned by French authorities. It obtained a distribution certificate in 1973. It was first shown in theaters in October 2011.
