My Sister Eileen

Young adult sisters Ruth Sherwood and Eileen Sherwood are trying to eke out a living in their hometown of Columbus OH in their chosen professions of writer and actress, respectively, with varying degrees of success. Personally, Ruth, the older protector, has limited experience with men as men naturally gravitate toward pretty and naive Eileen. When a joint effort to advance both their careers ends up backfiring on them, ostensibly ruining their names in Columbus, they are able to convince Grandmother Sherwood and their father Walter Sherwood, the latter albeit reluctantly, to try their hand in the bigger market of New York City, Dad providing them with $100 seed money to get them started. Unprepared for the cutthroat nature and the higher cost of living in NYC compared to Columbus, they feel somewhat forced to take the last apartment they view on the first day, albeit on a "one month money back guarantee" verbal promise with the landlord Mr. Appopoulos: a Greenwich Village basement apartment which ends up being even more problematic than their initial viewing showed them. As they try to make their way in the big city, they get into one misadventure after another usually due to a combination of Eileen's over trust of men who have other things on their minds, and their apartment ending up being as busy as Grand Central Station as colorful character after another passes through for one reason or another. The question becomes whether they can even make it through the month for NYC to be the land of opportunity that they envisioned.
