Mr. & Mrs. '55

Sita Devi is a free-spirited person with close ties to women's liberation groups. She would prefer that her only niece Anita would never marry and be dependent on a man, but instead be single and free. When Sita's brother, Anita's father, passes away, he leaves behind a vast fortune to be paid to Anita. The only condition: she must be married in order to inherit. Sita hires an unemployed artist, Preetam Kumar, to be a temporary groom for Anita. Sita's plan materializes and soon Anita and Preetam are married. After the marriage Sita instructs Preetam to keep away from Anita, but fate has other plans for this trio.
