London, 1953. Having sacrificed the best years of his uneventful life toiling away at Kafkaesque, soul-draining London County Council, buttoned-up civil servant Mr Williams realises there's no time for regrets. And as retirement looms, the unsightly, irrevocable truth forces the melancholic English gentleman into a tardive revaluation of his mundane concerns.
