Storyline
A young woman meets a vital young man, but their love affair is doomed because of the man's materialistic nature.
Vittoria lives in Rome and works as a translator. After a night of arguments, she ends her long-standing marriage to her husband Riccardo. When Vittoria goes to visit her mother, a stock market speculator, she meets Piero. Piero, an ambitious and successful stockbroker, is single and finds himself attracted to the beautiful Vittoria. They are both united by a sense of aimlessness and a need for closeness and security. At first, it seems as though chance has smiled upon them. Vittoria and Piero begin seeing each other regularly, but despite their mutual attraction, an important element seems to be missing that would drive their relationship forward. Vittoria repeatedly turns away in disappointment whenever Piero tries to get closer to her. Piero, for his part, is unable to develop a genuine interest in Vittoria; he is too consumed by his greatest concern: money, investments, and stocks. Yet Piero is not ready to give up on Vittoria so quickly and persistently courts her love. Over time, Vittoria relents and lets him into her life more. Despite all their efforts, the romantic relationship is in danger of failing.
