The Adventure

Having recently had to endure a long distance relationship in he being on an extended work trip, the latest of many, Romans Anna and Sandro are engaged, although Anna's wealthy diplomat father doesn't believe Sandro will ever marry her, while the distance has made Anna wonder if she too does not want to marry him. They and a group of their equally well-off friends are going on a yachting trip together to celebrate his return, the small group which includes Anna's best friend Claudia. With the yacht anchored off what appears to be a largely abandoned island in the Aeolian group, the collective spends the day largely lazing on the island. When they are about to leave, Anna is nowhere to be found. There is an immediate flurry of activity to locate her, including a group traveling to a nearby larger, more populated island to inform the authorities. But as time goes on, their direct thoughts of locating Anna, or even wondering if she is dead or alive, become less and less as they and those that they encounter go on with with their largely amoral lives, which includes a sexual tension that emerges between Sandro and Claudia.
