Plot:
Hari Srivatsava (Sanjeev Kumar) takes care of his two young half-brothers after their father's death, in a small village. When he goes up to Bombay to sit the Bar exams, his wife, jealous of Govind and Rajesh, the two boys left in her care, drives them out of their house, separating Hari from his younger siblings. Arriving in Bombay, Govind (Amitabh Bachan), prefers to work rather than take charity, and through a fortunate turn of events is able to send his younger brother to university. Parveen Babi as Mary provides a colourful insight into the world of illegal distilling and distribution of alcohol, and a glimpse into the underworld associated with it. Prem Chopra (Bansi) has for years piggy backed on Mr Verma's (Pinchoo Kapoor) legitimate transport business, and run a small time illegal business. When Manju (Bindiya Goswami) marries, the stage is set for Bansi to expand his illegal business with the connivance of manager Ramanathan and the son-in-law. The brothers, separated two decades ago are reunited in a courtroom where one is an accused, another is witness for the prosecution and the third is the judge. The narrative is peppered with comic as well as romantic interludes, and several song/dance numbers that have become popular.
