Storyline
Looking for work as a violinist, Josef comes into the orbit of a rich young woman. She introduces him to a hedonistic existence free from religious intolerance. Josef gets an incredible commission: to write an opera for the San Carlo.
18th century: The young Czech Josef Myslivecek was supposed to follow in his father's footsteps and become a miller. But at the age of 26, he tried his luck as a composer in Italy. He wanted to become famous and write operas. Although he succeeded in studying with the renowned Italian composer Giovanni Battista Pescetti, success was a long time coming. The young musician was forced to live from hand to mouth and could only keep his head above water by working as a music teacher. Until, through a case of mistaken identity, he met a wealthy noblewoman. With her help and her network, he is able to present his compositions to influential men and thus gets the chance to compose and perform his first opera. The young king is very impressed by the opera performance - it is Josef Myslivecek's breakthrough and he quickly becomes one of the most sought-after composers of his time. Because of his origins, he is called "Il boemo" - the Bohemian. During these years, he travels extensively and also befriends the young Mozart. But Josef Myslivecek can only enjoy his fame for a short time, as he soon falls seriously ill, marking the beginning of his decline.
