Home Early

For the first time in a long time, Joe Doakes has finished his work early, meaning that he can go home early. What Joe forgets is that his wife is having a bridge party at the house with about fifteen of her friends. Although Joe's wife doesn't mind if Joe hangs around, Joe would prefer not to be around all the cackling women, who are all, including Joe's wife, suspicious of why Joe is home early. Joe, along with his son Junior, feels trapped in his own home. Even the simple task of going out to retrieve the evening newspaper from the front stoop raises the cackles of the women. Both Joe and Junior ultimately try to take control of their movements about the house.
