Plot:
The film is largely set in studio Babelsberg in Berlin in the year 1961, where Emil (Dennis Mojen) starts working as an extra and falls in love with Milou (Emilia Schule), a French dancer who is working as a body double for a popular French actress Beatrice played by Ellenie Salvo Gonzalez. Emil is shown to be clumsy and irresponsible, albeit only because he was never really interested in being an extra. He is shown to be passionate about Milou and feels that he understands her. He is freer and generally not very apprehensive. On the other hand, Milou though passionate about dancing and acting, is insecure and never really got her big break. She lives in the shadow of Beatrice because she is fearful of being unemployed or not having a future. The plot revolves around the Russians restricting movements between East and West Berlin. Since the studio was in the east and Milou's hotel the west, Milou had to leave for Paris without saying goodbye to Emil. Emil then takes up a fake identity and creates a fake socialist film to bring Milou back to East Berlin. This leads to a series of obstacles and tragedies along the way.
