They meet at a medical conference in Vienna: Renate, a young German doctor, and Jan, a colleague from Warsaw. It is love at first sight. Jan, however, is married and anxiously tries to keep the relationship secret from his wife. Over the following years, Jan and Renate meet again and again at conferences and seminars, reliving a love that exists only in stolen minutes, hours, and a few brief days.
