Plot:
Soon to be empty-nesters with their daughter Eva Peyton deciding to live in the college dorm so as not to have to do the commute, Michael and Victoria Peyton have just moved from the inner city to the suburbs away from their friends, the move a cost cutting measure after Victoria loses her job. They equate the cookie-cutter aspect of the neighborhood with being boring but safe. With no work yet for her just started home-based business as an architectural artist, Victoria, who is home alone more often than not, lets the boredom get the better of her by succumbing to any distraction. The main focus of that distraction is their next door neighbors, Fritz and Elli Wolfram. The Wolframs are cordial enough, but Victoria witnesses what she believes is suspicious behavior especially in Fritz. She soon believes she sees through the Wolframs' darkened basement window something or someone caged in the basement, Fritz having blacked out said windows soon after Michael and Victoria moved into the neighborhood. Largely without corroborating evidence, it may be Victoria's word against the Wolframs if the police get involved, and it may be difficult for Victoria to convince anyone, including her family and her best friend, private home inspector Careese Neys, of what she believes she saw in the basement as anything more than a hallucination born out of sleep deprivation. If she is correct in what she believes she saw and gets close to finding out who or what is in the basement, Victoria may place her life and that of her loved ones in danger in the process.
