Following the karuta tournament in Tokyo in the prequel, Chihaya's team is ready for national championship. However, Chihaya is disappointed to hear that a childhood best friend from whom she drifted apart has quit the game. She pours her time and energy into training for the nationals, but in the process sacrifices a lot within and without.
