Storyline
Two Britons, Hengist and Horsa, are captured and enslaved by invading Romans and taken to Rome. One of their first encounters in Rome leaves Hengist being mistaken for a fighter, and gets drafted into the Royal Guard to protect Caesar.
In ancient times, Emperor Julius Caesar and his troops, led by his friend Mark Antony, have just returned to Rome after being away for three years conquering much of Western Europe. Caesar discovers that his return does not elicit universal joy as many would like to see him deposed. One other issue with which they will consider is backing either Cleopatra or Ptolemy in the battle for the throne of Egypt, Caesar who dispatches Antony to Egypt on his behalf to form an alliance with Ptolemy. However, Antony has his own plans regardless of Caesar's wants, especially after meeting Cleopatra. What happens with Antony's plans against Caesar will be affected by two Britons brought back to Rome to be sold into slavery, Horsa who is prone to heroism, and milquetoast and somewhat dim square wheel-maker Hengist Pod who is prone to cowardice, they both trying to escape to make their way back home to Britain.
