Storyline
Although the home of cabinet minister Arthur Bennett is a hotbed of spies, moles, and double agents, no one knows the true identity of notorious German spymaster Strendler.
WWI. The Allied forces have experienced heavy losses on the battlefields in the Germans seeming to know the Allied plans even before news of such plans gets to the Allied front line troops. Those at military headquarters in London, led by Col. James Yeats, know that a German spy named Franz Strendler has been able to get secret plan after secret plan back to the German forces, the problem being that they don't know who Strendler is. Despite it taking a valuable asset out of Germany, Yeats agrees to recall back to London one of their best agents, Williams, to lead the mission to discover who Strendler is. This mission to discover Strendler's identity ends up centering on barrister/new cabinet minister Arthur Bennett within whose midst both secret British agents and secret German agents are posted, they who undertake double crosses and triple crosses as they work for their side. The mission is affected by the return home of Bennett's son, RAF pilot Frank Bennett and his remembrance of Helene, a field nurse at a military hospital in Mornay, she who he had fallen in love with when when was a patient there but of who he lost track.
