Plot:
Dr. Morley, Dr. Costain, and Ann Barlow watch an object coming in from space that piques their curiosity. It does not burn up upon hitting the atmosphere and changes course, thus suggesting that it is under some type of control. Noting from their radar where it lands, they head out to investigate. Military personnel allow them to enter the area where, eventually, a basketball-sized object is found. It's surface temperature is 25 degrees below zero. The sphere is brought back to the lab at the Falsley Park Government Radio and Electronics Research Establishment for further investigation. Probing it with x-rays, Morley and company find it is hollow inside. The shell seems to be of some unfamiliar silicon composition. Ann stays late in the lab to do some documentation and notes that a bright light is emanating from the room containing the object. When she goes to check on it, a clawed hand reaches for her. The three scientists decide it is an energy valve that permits the transmission of matter over great distances. The next night, Morley wants to watch the sphere. It lights up and he is killed by a large alien. The alien escapes out a lab window, commandeers a military vehicle, and flees the base. following that, reports arise about young women disappearing. A common denominator to the missing girls is that they all responded to an ad placed in the "Bikini Girl" magazine by the alien who is using the name Medra. Ann agrees to act as a plant to find out if the alien is involved. When trapped, the creature admits that he is seeking women to breed with his fellow aliens on Ganymede, one of Jupiter's moons, in hopes of overcoming mutations.
