Plot
Storyline
In 1880 New Mexico, during a feud between cattle growers, former childhood friends Billy the Kid and Jim Sherwood end up working for opposite sides.
It's 1880 in the American West. Outlaw William Bonney's reputation precedes him, those in the know recognizing his quick left-handed draw as that of Billy the Kid. That outlaw status has been ingrained in him at a young age in avenging the murder of his father when Billy was twelve. As such, he lives by an "honorable" moral code, and is loyal to a fault, the reason for arriving in the Township of Lincoln, nestled against Monument Valley: to break his friend Pedro Gonzales out of prison, his primary crime being Mexican. In Lincoln, Billy befriends saloon owner Dan Hickey, who hires Billy, in knowing Billy's quick draw, to help in his battle against some ranchers. In his work for Hickey, Billy is dismayed to learn that childhood friend Jim Sherwood now works as the foreman for one of those ranchers, British national Eric Keating, and his sister Edith. Knowing Billy's moral code even if Billy doesn't recognize it himself, Keating refuses to carry a gun in that only a coward would shoot him without provocation despite being an expert shot himself. It becomes a quandary for Billy in not always agreeing with either side in how they deal with the other, Billy still trying to find his moral center in the situation.
