Bikini Moon

Directed by Milcho Manchevski, Bikini Moon follows Bikini Moon Davis, a charismatic and volatile homeless Iraq War veteran played by Condola Rashad, who is desperate to reclaim her young daughter from the foster care system. When an ambitious documentary couple - producer Kate and director Trevor - discover her at a New York City drop-in center, they see the perfect subject for their film. They invite her into their home, blurring the line between genuine help and cold exploitation. As Bikini's mental instability grows harder to ignore, the couple's ethical failures come into sharp focus. Manchevski's masterstroke is that the cinema verite mockumentary form is not merely a stylistic choice but the film's very subject - the camera that captures exploitation is itself an instrument of it, making form and content impossible to separate.
