Plot
Storyline
The crew of a U.S. Navy ship in World War II goes into battle against the Japanese fleet.
A veiled history of the USS Bunker Hill (CV-17) during 1945. A new Roman Catholic Chaplain reports aboard and gets to know the crew. Usual make-up of American youth. The Captain relentlessly conducts General Quarters (Battle Stations)and Damage Control drills on the crew. So much so that the crew began to refer to their commanding officer as, "Captain Bligh" from "Mutiny on the Bounty." This pays off when the ship is attacked by the Japanese. Sustaining horrific damage, the ship survives due to their training. The ship is able to return home to the U.S. The real USS Bunker Hill was the most significantly battle damaged ship to survive and return home in the history of the U.S. Navy. The U.S. Navy attributed this to the crews training and determination to save their ship.
