Storyline
A self-assured businessman murders his employer, the husband of his mistress, which unintentionally provokes an ill-fated chain of events.
The plan is actually perfect: Julien Tavernier shoots his boss - the husband of his lover, Florence - in his office after work and makes it look like a suicide. But as soon as he steps out onto the street, he realizes he's left behind a telltale clue. Unnoticed, he sneaks back into the office building, now deserted for the evening - and gets stuck in the elevator. While Florence wanders desperately through Paris at night in search of Julien, a young couple steals the killer's car. The couple's adventurous joyride ends at a hotel, where they rent a room under the name Julien Tavernier and befriend a German couple. When the thieves try to slip away unnoticed in the Germans' car that night, they are caught off guard. In the heat of the moment, the car thief shoots the couple with a revolver he found in Julien's car and flees with his girlfriend. The consequences are fatal for everyone. Freed from the elevator, Julien manages to sneak out of the building the next morning, but he doesn't know that the police are already looking for him: the murderer is suspected of another murder he didn't commit.
