American Flyers

There is general discord between the three members of the Sommers family, young adult brothers Marcus and David, and their mother. That discord is based on the passing of Mr. Sommers from a cerebral aneurysm, a hereditary condition, and Marcus, a doctor at a sports institute in Madison, feeling like their talent agent mother was not there for him in his final days. Marcus also feels that their mother coddles David as he still lives at home and flunked out of both pre-med and pre-law in being directionless. Conversely, David supports their mother against Marcus in understanding that she was dealing with her own emotional pain when their father passed, and that he still lives at home in wanting to be there for her in Marcus abandoning them. On Marcus' surprise visit home, Mrs. Sommers, concerned that David may be afflicted with the same condition based on certain signs, convinces both Marcus and David for David to accompany Marcus back to Madison for Marcus to oversee neurological tests on David. Following receiving the test results, the truth which he is less than forthcoming, Marcus, once a champion road cyclist who one day just gave up the sport to everyone's surprise, is able to convince David that they should compete in Hell of the West, a grueling tour styled cycling race in the Colorado mountains, David also an avid cyclist but who has never competed except in his own mind. They are supported by Marcus' girlfriend Sarah, and Becky, a young woman they picked up en route to the race. Marcus will have to face his own demons in being reunited with his old teammate and best friend, Barry "the Cannibal" Muzzin, who never forgave Marcus for leaving the team and who happens to be Sarah's ex-husband. What happens in the race and between the brothers is affected by the truth coming to light.
