A Very Sordid Wedding

It's the summer of 2015, a decade and a half since we last saw the eccentric characters of the small town of Winters, TX in Sordid Lives (2000), many interrelated in some sordid or salacious manner and most proverbial white trash. They are now dealing with the recent US Supreme Court ruling legalizing same-sex marriage. While some like Southside Baptist's new pastor Jimmy Ray Brewton and convenience store clerk Vera Lisso are determined to ban same-sex marriage not only in the church but in the county in their staunch belief that homosexuality is against the teachings in the Bible, specifically the New Testament, others have slowly come around to believing in the support of love, straight or same-sex. Those in the latter category include sisters Latrelle Williamson and LaVonda DuPree, their Aunt Sissy who has just read the Bible cover-to-cover to get her facts straight, and lonely-hearts neighbor and friend Noleta Nethercott, whose ex-husband, G.W. Nethercott, had an affair with Latrelle and LaVonda's mother shortly before her death seventeen years ago. Specifically for Latrelle, it is to show support and love for her gay son Ty and his black husband Kyle, the two who have gone on a crusade for Ty's work to get married in all fifty states, Texas the last on the list. While Latrelle has not attended any of the other forty-nine in she only recently having come around to Ty's sexuality, she is still not sure if she wants to attend number fifty if and when it happens in still processing the actual fact of the gay wedding of her son. Meanwhile, Latrelle and LaVonda's somewhat estranged brother, Earl Ingram, casually referred to as Brother Boy, is an aging drag queen who is trying to find his place in a world of love in just having been fired in his new drag act, "We Three Queen of Opry Are", a tribute to Tammy Wynette, Loretta Lynn, and Dolly Parton, deemed too old fashioned. He is trying to make his way from his home in small town Longview to Dallas where there is greater opportunity for him, even hitchhiking if need be despite having been told that death row inmate, Billy Joe Dobson, coined the Hitchhiker Killer, has escaped from prison.
