When the Robertson family home is likely to be demolished along with the parish church for a development in her native small town, would be-painter, whose self-absorbed indecisiveness just wrecked her relationship with a perfect fiance, she returns home. Pastor Fred reconsiders his lack of ambition to fight for the church, which is the center of the locals' memories, when Sarah resolves to take the lead.
