Ricky "Hellcat" Heller is a fading Americana rock star and time and tragedy have taken their toll. Now, three years after leaving everything behind following the tragic death of his teenage son, Ricky returns to Anderson, Indiana. While his aging father welcomes Ricky with open arms, his estranged wife, Susanna, would prefer to not reopen the past wounds. Thinking that the best solution might be to end his life, Ricky is reintroduced to a troubled young man, Tyler, who was once the best friend of Ricky's son. Tyler has recently been released from the juvenile correction system and is attending group meetings to help him assimilate back into society. After a rough start, Ricky and Tyler strike up a friendship that offers both of them healing from their deep-seated pains. As Ricky begins to discover a new possibility for life and some level of reconciliation, Tyler slips in his rehabilitation and faces a return to the correctional system. In an effort to right his wrongs, Ricky desperately seeks a way to provide stability and support to help fight the demons that plague Tyler.
