New Mexico, 1870: Businessman Frank Pierce has used a scheme to strip honest farmer Taw Jackson - on whose land gold was discovered - of his property and send him to prison. While the betrayed man plots his revenge from behind bars, Pierce strikes the main gold vein. When Jackson is released, sooner than expected and as confident as ever, he seeks retribution. But Pierce wants to get Jackson out of the way - this time for good - and offers the gunslinger Lomax a bounty of $10,000. Jackson has anticipated the move and makes Lomax a counteroffer he can't refuse: He promises the sharp-shooting gunman a share of the loot worth $100,000 if he joins him in raiding the stagecoach Pierce uses to regularly transport the mined gold to the bank in El Paso. But the plan has a weak spot: the gold stagecoach is a rolling fortress clad in armor. The two receive support from the Native American Levi Walking Bear and explosives expert Billy Hyatt. The heist succeeds and Pierce seems defeated - but a skirmish breaks out while transporting the loot.
