In London, Kate and Justin live in the suburbs in a two-floor residential building with their cat. Kate is pregnant and has relationship problems with her estranged mother. When the couple Theresa and Jon Baker moves to the first floor, Kate and Theresa immediately befriend each other since they are both pregnant. One night, Kate invites Theresa and Jon to have dinner at her apartment, and a few minutes before their arrival, the lamp in the hall burns out. They have dinner and Kate and Justin learn that Theresa and Jon have been trying to have a baby for seven years. Further, Jon had lives in Shanghai for ten years, reason why the couple has the routine of leaving shoes outside the apartment.
