Plot:
An American destroyer captain and a German U-boat commander play a deadly game of cat and mouse in the South Atlantic during World War II. Both are highly experienced - Capt. Murrelle, the American, was in the merchant marine before joining the navy and Von Stolberg, the German, served in submarines during the First World War. Both are quite good at anticipating the other's next move. Von Stolberg is cynical however, having spent too much time killing and disliking his Nazi masters. Murrelle is a new arrival who quickly gains the respect of his men. Friend or foe, the captains also gain a great deal of respect for one another.
