Plot Storyline
An aging horror star contemplates retirement amid the modern culture of random violence, while a disturbed young gun collector embarks on an unprovoked killing spree.
Two parallel stories in Los Angeles are told, the two which converge in the final act. One centers on aged Byron Orlok, a movie star who has made his name in horror movies. He has just told his studio that he is retiring, which includes no public appearances, the reason being that he feels he has outlasted his welcome in his style of horror no longer in vogue. This news professionally disappoints Sam Michaels more than anyone, he who was set to direct Orlok's next movie which he wrote specifically for Orlok, he thus believing the quality of his script the reason for Orlok's decision. Orlok has also told his personal assistant Jenny that she need not return to his native England with him as he knows Jenny and Sam have started dating. While Jenny has not decided what to do, she tries to reassure Sam, who nonetheless goes on a mission to make Orlok change his mind, that Orlok probably didn't even read the script. Two centers on Bobby Thompson, a middle class young man who lives with his parents, Robert Sr. and Charlotte, and his wife, Ilene. Both Robert and Bobby are gun enthusiasts who go shooting together. What Robert and everyone else are unaware of is Bobby's fantasies, which his disturbed mind takes steps to realize: to use live humans for target practice.
