Plot:
Wealthy widowed Daniel Pardway is a self-made man seeing an opportunity of the Chicago great fire to rebuild, he having opened The Bazaar, a department store, following. Everything with the store he has done for his family, including when she was alive his wife Abigail, and now solely for his grown children, in age order Gene, Phoebe, Bert, and Freddie. While he opened a new wing of the store in honor of each of his children when they were born, he sees the store as a legacy for the three boys, Phoebe whose husband is largely meant to provide for her. While the four had never been denied anything growing up, they may see their respective futures a little differently than their father. Conversely, the one other person besides Daniel devoted completely to the store is collateral damage in Daniel's plans, namely his longtime General Manager Abe Ullman, who has worked at the store since day one.
