To start afresh, down-on-their-luck best friends, aspiring playwright Skip Donahue and would-be actor Harry Monroe, leave bustling New York City for sunny Arizona. Instead, they end up in court, and then behind bars for a crime they didn't commit. Having no chance of reducing their sentence, fate smiles upon the unfortunate duo when one of them discovers an unexpected talent as a rider taming bucking broncos. As the intense rivalry between prison wardens brings the natural-born cowboy into the spotlight for the annual inter-prison rodeo tournament, Skip and Harry devise a daring escape plan to walk as free men once more.
