Plot:
Largely due to the invitation extended in peace to extraterrestrial races included within the Voyager 2 craft, an alien craft approaches Earth in return in peace. Stranded in northern Wisconsin, the lone occupant needs to exist on Earth until he can rendezvous with his colleagues in three days time in Arizona to return home, failure to do so which would lead to his death. Part of a superior race, he takes on the appearance of recently deceased Scott Hayden. Still grieving Scott's accidental death, his widow, Jenny Hayden, knows that the being who looks like Scott is not only not Scott, but is also a being not of Earth. Fearful of this being, Jenny feels she has no other option but to drive him to Arizona in believing that he is kidnapping her. After trying time and time again to escape and get word to authorities about her precarious situation, Jenny begins to see a different side of this being, she ultimately falling in love with him for him and not for Scott. As they try to make their way to Arizona, they are being pursued by the National Security Agency, the team led by George Fox and consultant Mark Shermin with the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence. Fox and Shermin end up having different motivations and thus end goals with respect to the alien being. If they are indeed intercepted by the authorities, Jenny and the alien have to hope that it is Shermin, the one with the goal of peace and understanding as opposed to Fox's of apprehension and destruction, that either reaches them first or has the guiding vision on behalf of the pursuing authorities.
