Phillip Cast, a shy, trouble teenager, is confronted and chased home by a group of bullies as he walks home from school. Taking solace in his bedroom, he unknowingly downloads a virus on his computer and is sucked into a digital world of virtual reality. Upon arrival he is greeted and instructed by The Controller, the creator of the game and a mere shadow of a figure whose identity remains a mystery. With the help of Louise, a fellow player, they join forces to take down The Killer, whose sole purpose is to seek and destroy all players within the game. But in a world where trust is sacrificed for survival, the only person Phillip can trust, is himself.
