Of San Jose, CA, widowed David Kim, his sixteen year old daughter Margot Kim, his only offspring, and when she was alive David's wife/Margot's mother Pamela Kim, deceased two years in a relapse of lymphoma, are a tech savvy and tech reliant family, David who easily multitasks through technology. Generally considering her a reliable and conscientious person in their tight knit family, David isn't overly concerned when he can't get a hold of Margot on a Friday morning after what was for her a late night study group for an advanced biology class. By the time David gets worried that Margot is missing and informs the SJPD of such, the case led by compassionate Detective Rosemary Vick in being a caring parent herself, David comes to the realization in trying to answer Detective Vick's questions that he not only doesn't know who Margot's friends are, but that he doesn't really know Margot at all anymore as getting any intimate details from her was Pam's unofficial parenting role. With he handing over the hard drive from Margot's computer to Detective Vick for her team to do a deep forensic dive, David, in his part to find her, tries to get to know Margot in this crucial time largely by going through her social media, he often needing to do so under Pam's still active accounts. David will find that while doing so can provide some useful, credible information, it can also take him down some incorrect rabbit holes in people able to post almost anything they want online, truth or fiction.
