Plot:
On the far side of middle age, former heavyweight champion Rocky Balboa has long retired from boxing. He has always been a nostalgic man having lived most of his life in his tough South Philadelphia neighborhood, but those feelings have only increased since the passing of his wife Adrian a few years ago. That's why he always obliges requests for selfies or to regale stories of his boxing glories, especially at his Italian restaurant, Adrian's. Part of that nostalgia is to help those, especially from his past, in need, like bartender Marie, who he knew casually when she was a child. That nostalgia also causes a problem for his adult son, Robert, "Rocky Jr.", who is always seen as Rocky's son, even in his white collar finance career. That nostalgia is the reason Rocky reapplies for his boxing license in the hope of having a few lower profile bouts. Initially denied by the boxing commission, Rocky does get his license when he is approached by those behind the current heavyweight champion, Mason "The Line" Dixon, who wants to fight Rocky in an exhibition bout. Undefeated at 33-0, Dixon however is facing a PR nightmare in being accused of protecting his record by facing unworthy opponents, which has only been exacerbated by comparisons to Rocky in who was a better boxer for his day. Scheduled for ten rounds, both Dixon and Rocky have something to prove in this bout.
