Plot:
Harold Petts takes his job as a postman in the village of Upper Tringly seriously, and he does it well and efficiently with his customers in mind, going above and beyond in doing duties which would not be considered regulation. Things are different when he is promoted to work in the central post office in London, his village ways which only don't serve him well professionally, but make him a fish out of water in London life in general. Even when he goes above to perform his work duties beyond expectations, his superiors don't see such effort as meeting the postal service goals, and is even to the detriment of British society. Due to the situation upon his arrival at the central train station in London for the first time, he and struggling art student Jean are mistaken for postal thieves. The true thieves, Rupert and his gang, were unsuccessful in their theft, which was just a routine theft for them. However, Rupert discovers that the rival Maldon gang were also eyeing a postal theft of a much more lucrative nature at the same time, specifically of some new bank notes. As such, Rupert wants to muscle in on Maldon's theft of the notes. Things become even more complicated when the police place somewhat hapless PC Woods in the role to monitor the movements of Harold to ensure he isn't truly a thief, Woods who not only believes Harold and Jean are in cahoots with each other in Jean's innocent assistance of Harold in navigating London life, but believe they are part of Maldon's gang.
