Husband and wife Chris and Riley North and their adolescent daughter Carly North were a typical loving Angeleno family, issues they faced including Riley and by association Carly in a feud with neighborhood alpha mom Peg, and Riley and Chris' jobs as a bank employee and mechanic respectively leading to them unable to afford the little luxuries in life and they not having as much quality time with Carly as they would have liked. That past tense is due to Chris and Carly having been murdered five years ago in a targeted killing issued by drug dealer Diego Garcia in Chris solely having contemplated being the getaway driver in a robbery against him. Riley, with minor injuries in the ambush, was able to identify the three hit men, but the system denied her any justice in the three being released after a preliminary hearing due to the judge deeming there being insufficient evidence to proceed. The only person involved in the case that seemingly had Riley's back was LAPD Detective Stan Carmichael, who was warned by his senior partner, Detective Moises Beltran, not to pursue the matter in Garcia having many people in authority in his back pocket including an unknown LAPD officer. Shortly thereafter, Riley disappeared. The authorities, including the LAPD and the FBI, are aware that she has just reemerged in Los Angeles but is in hiding as there have been a series of murders. Transformed mentally and physically, Riley has become a one person vigilante, her seeming goal to kill everyone that was responsible either for Chris and Carly's deaths, and/or that denied her that justice. While Garcia becomes aware of her reemergence, initially not even remembering who she is in his criminal path being so widespread, and thus goes on a mission to stop her before she gets to him, the LAPD, including Carmichael and Beltran, and FBI go on their own quest to locate her also to stop her in her tracks in what she doing being criminal. What happens in this matter is affected partly by public opinion, some on her side who do whatever they can to help her in her mission including protecting her hiding in plain sight.
